“AN”开头器材类装备编号定义

4区数字代指了型号，每个设备都有其自己的设备编号，由1开始，高段位被加拿大(500-599, 2500-2599)，澳大利亚(2000-2099)，新西兰(2100-2199)，英国(2200-2299)分别限定使用，注，加拿大似乎并没有使用500开始，而直接跳到501， 5区可选数字代指了特定的装备型号。第一代产品不会有此后缀，第一代改型会缀以A，以此类推，而字母”I”, “O”, “Q”, “S”, “T”, “X”, “Y”, “Z”不会被使用为后缀，因为”I”, “O”, “Q”和 “S”会被误认为数字1，0或5，”T”, “X”, “Y” 和 “Z”同理。 6区字母V代指了此设备由多部件组成，其后跟的数字代指了此设备的特定型号， Notes:

位置字母C，型号字母B,Z与用途字母Z仅仅能被国家安全局使用。 密码设备，并是不常理上认为的位置代指，而应当成为一个新的，型号或者用途代指 当出现两个以上”F”, “M”, “P”, “T” 或 “V”时，位置字母G也会被使用 位置字母M只用于专用车辆装备，即车辆底盘和车载设备作为装备的整体。对于其他车载设备，使用字母V。 当表示位置的字母字母“G”“M”“P”“U”都不适合使用的时候，使用字母“T”，一般用于可移动的装备（但并不是在移动中使用的）。 在以下情况下使用表示位置的字母“U”：
-可在陆海空多种环境下使用的装备，比如AN/URC系列求生电台
-统一系统包含在不同环境下使用的组件的，比如AN/USD-9系统：包含空投组件AN/ARW-83以及安装在地面的AN/TSQ-105。 信鸽系统确实是有过使用，并且指派了型号。比如AN/CBQ-1鸽笼系统。毕竟“AN”系统最初就是通信装备使用。美军曾经在全世界战争中少量使用信鸽用于传递消息。美军的最后一只信鸽于1957年退役。 型号字母“E”表示激光设备，于1985年加入规范（比如AN/PEQ-2）。不过一般常见的的激光设备根据工作波长一般选用“V”或者“A”。
